Happenings In And Around The SWSO

Dr. John W.M. Carter was elected to serve as president of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontists for 2004-2005. Dr. Carter received his DDS from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and his graduate training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics from St. Louis University. Dr. Carter has maintained a private practice in orthodontics and a career in academics for over twenty years. He was an associate clinical professor of orthodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 1982-2000. He developed courses and wrote and illustrated manuals of instruction for graduate orthodontics in Growth and Development, Biomechanics and Mixed Dentition Treatment. He was also the Tweed Typodont instructor and a docent for clinical case management with the residents. In 1986 he added the duties of developing UMKC's first program for predoctoral orthodontics that included classroom, laboratory, and clinical components. As the first director of this program he wrote and illustrated manuals for fundamental orthodontics, growth and development, laboratory projects and the clinical management of minor tooth movement. In 2000 Dr. Carter was appointed to the position of clinical associate professor in the department of plastic surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. This is a part time position as the orthodontic consultant for the Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomaly Team. Dr. Carter has a full time practice in Overland Park, Kansas.

Dr. Jim B. Morrow was elected as the new SWSO councilor to the Board of Directors of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontists.
