SWSO Presents Faculty Research Awards

Supporting orthodontic educators has become a great area of focus recently. Therefore, this past year the SWSO Board of Directors voted to create a pilot program of research awards for full time junior faculty representing the four university orthodontic programs in the Southwestern region. One recipient was chosen from each program. In the inaugural year, the awards were named in honor of researchers/educators Drs. Fred Schudy and Thomas Creekmore. Each recipient received a cash award of $3,000.
The four recipients for 2003 were: Dr. Anna Maria Salas of the University of Texas at Houston, Dr. Reginald W. Taylor of Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. C. Lynn Hurst of the University of Texas at San Antonio and Dr. Tarisai C. Dandajena of the University of Oklahoma.
The SWSO is continuing to show support for orthodontic education as this program is slated to be expanded for 2004.
