As a new member of PARC I was honored to attend my first meeting January 20-21, 2006. It was a very interesting and informative meeting for me. As PARC is, in actuality, a reference committee, it merely makes recommendations to the AAOF BOD who makes the determinations on behalf of the organization. Due to this the recommendations of PARC are confidential so I cannot divulge particulars. However, I believe I can report that I felt heartened to review some very nice proposals. I also thought it was interesting to note that the majority of junior faculty who submitted proposals were not native Americans. The new PARC Chair, Dr. Stephanos Kyrkanides, Dr. Leslie Will and myself developed a new proposed award to assist the development of the next generation of world class orthodontic researchers. Drs. King and Johnson completed their tenures on the committee and the Foundation Board will determine their replacements. If you have any potential candidates for these positions please forward their names to Robert Hazel for consideration, I would love some fellow SWSO members on PARC with me!
