CAO TO HOLD 60th SCIENTIFIC MEETING IN WINNIPEG, MANITOBA
The Canadian Association of Orthodontists will hold their 60th Annual Scientific Meeting at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel, September 11-13, 2008. This educational meeting is expected to draw over 150 orthodontists from across North America.
Speakers will include:

• Dr. James Mah, “HDTV for Orthodontics – Conebeam CT”
• Dr.W. Ron Redmond, “Advances in Technology”
• Dr. Sean Carlson, “Integration of Cone Beam 3-D Imaging into Orthodontic Practice:
Clinical and Technical Considerations”
• Mr. Angus Trumble, “A Brief History of the Smile: Reflections on Some Evolving Attitudes in
Modern History Towards Teeth and Smiling”

In addition to the Scientific Sessions, the Auxiliary Program is expected to exceed over 150 attendees and will include speakers such as:

• Dr. Lorne Koroluk, “Diagnosis of Orthodontic Problems in the Mixed Dentition”
• Mr. Angus Trumble, “A Brief History of the Smile”
• Ms Susan Isaac, “Biofilm Disruption and the Orthodontic Client: Technology that Supports

• Dr. Sonia Palleck, “Working and Worrying –What Everyone Should Know” and “Owning the Job– How Individual Leadership Impacts Your Practice”
”Orthoquest: Collaborate Straight to Success” – Strategic team challenge.

Dr. Gordie Organ of Toronto, Ontario, President of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, recently stated that the Association now has over 800 members from across Canada. Members work collectively to advance the art and science of orthodontics, striving for higher standards of excellence in the industry and help promote public awareness of orthodontic health care benefits rendered by certified orthodontic specialists.

Wilford Hall Medical Center Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program (TORP)

Probably most of the SWSO members are, as I once was, unaware there are actually two orthodontic specialty training programs in San Antonio! Most of us know of the University of Texas program but there is another one—the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program (TORP) at Lackland Air Force Base. It has actually been around almost 10 years, having received initial accreditation from the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation on July 23, 1999. Watch for this program to be highlighted in the next issue of the SWSO Bulletin!
