SWSO President's Message
Dr. Vann Greer
SWSO was well-represented at the AAO meeting in Seattle in May. Kirt Simmons, Chair of the SWSO Delegation attended the informal meeting of the Delegation Chairs on Thursday before the meeting. The Delegates (Kirt Simmons, Clark Colville, Steve Robirds, Devek Frech, Dean Jensen, and Mark Felton) and alternate delegates (Larry Tadlock, Jeff Thompson, and Vann Greer) participated at the two Constituent Caucuses, two sessions of the House of Delegates (HOD), and Budget Review and Reference Committees. Trustee Gayle Glenn was there as well, to supervise and offer resources. There were one or two contentious issues, but we were able to complete the business of the HOD in a timely manner. The resolutions will appear in the AAO BULLETIN in detail.
Plans for the three-way meeting with Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (GLAO) and Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) in San Antonio are well underway. Ron Tietz and his band of merry guys and gals have the local arrangements under control. Speakers are signed up, and the party at the Buckhorn is planned. All space in the exhibit hall has been sold out, with a total of 85 different exhibitors, so there will be lots of things to see. We will have periodic raffles in the exhibit hall during breaks, so bring your business cards to enter. The speakers represent a broad spectrum of topics, with two and one-half days of scientific presentations for doctors, and two full days for staff, with one of those days of meetings for both doctor and staff. On Saturday you will have a choice from four different topics, presented one half-day each.
We want to extend a special invitation to younger members, and the older members seeking associates or possible transition, to attend the New and Younger Members Luncheon. This will give them an opportunity to get acquainted. There will be a presentation by our Trustee, Gayle Glenn, and AAO staff members. The luncheon is Friday at noon and is a ticketed event.
Bring your walking shoes or your water wings, to walk on the River Walk or ride on the canal boats. Reserve these dates: September 27- 30. You should have received registration materials in the mail. See you all there!!
